4 Tips to Improve Your Social Media Presence

Stay true to who you are

Being yourself is a tried and true piece of advice in life, and it applies to social media too. You’ve put a lot of time and energy into constructing your brand, you’ve crafted an aesthetic, a color palette, a logo and most importantly for social media, your brand voice. On social media, there are millions of voices vying to be heard, however, the best thing you can do to reach your audience is be who your brand is.

Just like in real life, if someone senses that you’re being fake, they’ll call you out on it and you break their trust. How can you expect an audience to connect to your brand if it’s confusing or untrustworthy? The people that are genuinely attracted and interested in your brand will hear you and remember you for what you are. Showing up consistently in a way that is clearly you across all channels is the best way to establish who you are to a follower.

Be consistent

This is a simple tip, but one that takes discipline and planning to follow. Developing a consistent posting schedule makes you reliable and followers will know to expect a new post. Showing up consistently and meeting expectations will help keep you top of mind and continuously add value to your audience. This can be easily achieved through the use of a content calendar and/or a post-scheduling app such as Sprout or Hootsuite. Most are easy and free (to a point) to use and can seriously help keep you posting on time!

Be active and engage with others

Something amazing about social media is the direct access your brand has to your audience. The access combined with its immediate nature can give you a clear idea of how your audience feels about the content you’re posting about. This can provide invaluable insight into the reception of new product offerings or where you stand during a crisis.

This direct connection with your audience also gives your brand an opportunity to forge a relationship with consumers and create brand loyalty. By creating content that allows followers to engage with your account, like quizzes or this or that activities in stories, you create a more invested audience and present a closer relationship. It can even be as simple as responding to tags in comments. If your audience feels good and like your brand genuinely cares about them, you’ll have a loyalty that is unmatched.

People also love to see brands interact with each other! Don’t be afraid to cheer on another brand or even joke around with them as long as it fits into your brand voice to do so.

Stay nimble

Social media changes frequently, so in order to stay relevant it’s best to adjust your day-to-day strategy to meet the pace of some trends. Especially on a platform like TikTok or Instagram, participating in a trend can help boost visibility and engagement. In the same vein, adjusting your posts to react appropriately to current events is important. You never want to be caught unaware that your post was actually incredibly insensitive due to timing when you scheduled it before a major world event.

However, you do not have to jump on every trend. As long as you’re up to date on what is trending and current events, you should select what to adjust to based on what fits your brand. If a trend doesn’t work for you, don’t worry about it, but if it does, it can earn you some serious spotlight.

 

The guiding principle to remember is that social media is a valuable tool to build trust with your audience. Trust in your brand through consistent behavior, showing up through engagement and presence in pop culture and being respectful is a resource that gives your brand credibility and loyalty. Gaining and maintaining a presence on social media is not an overnight task. It takes a dedicated strategy and consistently showing up to build trust and rapport with your audience.
